The Inaugural Global Cricket Tournament (GCT) started with a vision to create something new in the cricket world. An opportunity to showcase talent in a brand-new event.
The format is 20 over cricket but made up of three teams consisting of different players that would not normally be selected to play together. The team is made up of Marquee players, Under 23 players and Wild Card players.
Global Cricket Tournament Founder, Prof. Jacques Faul and Project Lead, Birgitta Wasserfall, are working together on this new tournament. They both have a wealth of experience in the sports industry and have a passion for the game. They make a good team and accomplished putting this plan into place with short timelines to making GCT a reality.
“The Global Cricket Tournament was birthed as a strategic repositioning of Titans Global, a special project designed by Titans Cricket to globalize the Titans brand by creating a series of cricket tournaments and reaching a new audience through sportainment.” Said Faul.
The women’s teams will set the stage for this inaugural event, which is something both Faul and Wasserfall are proud of. Giving the women the opportunity to have more game time and experience this new tournament first!
Global Cricket Tournament is bringing something new to the game that is really different for the players to experience, with players representing DP World Lions, Eastern Storm and Fidelity Titans combined with two international players, travelling from Namibia and Japan, on each of their teams. This dynamic will mean that everyone will need to find a way to work on winning together!
In an interview with Birgitta Wasserfall, she highlighted that is something special because it’s something we can all attest to. Having a dream and then getting the opportunity to make the dream real in a game you are passionate about.
“GCT is about telling a story that dreams can come true whether it’s a sports dream, cultural or academic dream. Each tournament will be documented and produced into a docuseries.” Wasserfall explained.
